CG's personal RAH 2018 page
Hey, folks. Thanks for visiting.
I've always secretly envied people who participated in marathons or any kind of fitness challenge. I've also admired people who take action when it comes to social issues or a cause that they believe in. I'm running the Ricky Byrdsong Memorial Race. At just shy of 45 years old, I'm running my first ever 5K right here in my hometown for a more than worthy cause - and checking a big item off my bucket list as well.
According the the North Shore YWCA website: "The Race Against Hate honors the legacy of Ricky Byrdsong, former Northwestern University Basketball Coach, Vice President of Affairs at Aon Corporation, and Skokie resident who was murdered by a white supremacist in 1999 while walking in his neighborhood with two of his young children. On the same day, the shooter wounded six Orthodox Jews in Rogers Park. Over the subsequent weekend, he killed a Korean American graduate student in Indiana and wounded an African American minister in Decatur before taking his own life. Proceeds from the Race Against Hate are used to further the mission of YWCA Evanston/North Shore, in particular our efforts in the areas of racial justice and violence prevention."
I want to be a part of anything that attempts to combat bigotry and heal this country's shameful racial divide. To that end, I could use your pledge. Since this is my 1st time doing something like this, I'm setting a simple pledge goal at $100.00. Anything that you could contribute would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
